On 1/3/2012, Governor Cuomo signed into law an amendment to New York State's Open Meetings Law which would require local governments to make available to the public, prior to or at an open meeting, certain records which would be the subject of discussion at the meeting. The new law (Chapter 603 of the Laws of 2011) takes effect on February 2, 2012.
The new law also requires municipalities that maintain a website to post the information prior to the meeting to the extent practicable, as determined by the local government.
As promptly as possible, the City Clerk shall upload meeting agendas and proposed legislation to the city's website upon receipt. The documents shall be located under the "Meetings" section on the city's homepage.
